Under the Skin is a song taken from our new album Genesis. It also shares the title with a science fiction movie directed by Jonathan Glazer, featuring the amazing Scarlett Johansson.
The song started with the title (as most Parralox songs do) and I thought it would be neat to read the script of the movie to see if I could get some lyrical inspiration.
After finding a website which had the script for the movie, I read it and was thinking "I really can't remember this being in the movie, is this a directors cut??" and suddenly realised it was a satire website.
I used the opening line of that script as the template for the madness of the rest of the song. Louise Love also contributed some suitably insane vocals.
A Yamaha DX100 (my first synth, with the Roland SH-101 being purchased shortly after) provided the funk.
Under the Skin is dedicated to Grace Kelly, and features Louise Love on lead vocals, with guest growls by the legendary Jack von Ahlen.
