Parralox - Steppin' Out

Steppin' Out

Written by David Ian Jackson

Verse 1
Now
The mist across the window hides the lines
But nothing hides the color of the lights that shine
Electricity so fine
Look and dry your eyes

Verse 2
We
So tired of all the darkness in our lives
With no more angry words to say can come alive
Get into a car and drive
To the other side

Chorus
Me babe, steppin' out
Into the night
Into the light
You babe, steppin' out
Into the night
Into the light

Verse 3
We
Are young but getting old before our time
We'll leave the T.V. and the radio behind
Don't you wonder what we'll find
Steppin' out tonight?

Verse 4
You
Can dress in pink and blue just like a child
And in a yellow taxi turn to me and smile
We'll be there in just a while
If you follow me

Repeat Chorus

Instrumental Break

Repeat Chorus x2

1650 - Met Sharyn at Melbourne Central, her tram was late. She usually gets the train through the loop but today thought she would get off at Flinders Street Station and get a tram up Swanston Street as it might be quicker. Of course she just missed 4 trams and had to wait ages for the next one. All this during peak time of course. The universe rewarded her meticulous planning. We then went to QV to pickup an order for Sharyn, then I walked her, Roger and Fritz to the train station.
Jack and I walked back to the studio and met Paris and Rebecca (from 139 Lonsdale) on the street and chatted for ages about Crazy Owners Corp members. We both had stories to compare. I got some Hanaichi as well.
Came back to the studio and watched The Office US (not the god awful Australian dumpster fire version) while eating dinner. Then I thought I would maybe record vocals for this track.
I actually started the mapping and arrangement for the song last night. I "nearly" went to bed, but thought It was a tad too early to get some sleep, even though I have an MRI of my knee tomorrow. So I booted up the studio and started on vocals. I fixed my vocal chain as somehow my pre-amp and compressor settings were a little off. The vocals sound crystal clear now.
2158 - Just finished recording vocals for the track. They need comping but I will probably do that tomorrow after I get back from the MRI and Suzy's brthday. I'm catching up with Suzy after the MRI and I need to figure out what to buy her as a birthday gift.
0007 hours - Just finished a rough first version. Printing V1 now. Time for bed now I think.

1927 - Just came back from dinner at Saravanah Bavanah with Louise (she had our usual Mysore Masala Dosa and I had the Uttapam with Tomato, Chilli and Cheese - delicious). She gave me some wonderful birthday presents. Chcoclate Brownies and a Star Trek Cook Book (and a lovely card with dogs on it). I walked her to the tramstop as usual and then went back to the studio and grabbed Jack.
We then went for a walk around the city and I was listening to music and Massive attack came on - Teardrop and Unfinished sympathy. I rang Louise and asked if she'd like to record Teardrops next week, and f not, then we could do one of my original songs. She loved the idea of Massive attack, so it looks like we have the final song for Holiday '24!
2335 - I think I just finished the track. I originally just planned to finalise the vocals, but I ended up tweaking the arrangement, and then finishing off the music and mix and before I knew it, the song was done. Only 2 versions and done in 3 days. Hope you like it.
