Additional Info: Tuesday 22/11/2022 @ 1140 hours. Any Way You Want It V4 is printing as I type these notes. I already have an idea in my head on how I want Malibu to sound. I was listenting to The Sign (Extended) by The Human League and wondered if this song would work in a very stripped down way. I got Adrian to play bass guitar last week and I plan on adding some LinnDrums and maybe some acoustuic guitar. Let's see what happens. These things sometimes don't work out wuite how you plan. 1343 hours - just finished mapping out the song, and adding the acoustic guityar parts (Session Guitarist Kontact) and adding some PPG Bells etc. Just a rough guide. I also added a Cherry Qudio Quarda Arp part that takes tghe songin a differwent direction. I'm looking at the clock because I know Cherry Audio is about to drop their CS80 clone, but I have to wait for the USA clocks to tick over. By the time I finish recording the vocals the synth will probablt be available to buy and I'll use it on this track. I dropped the song 2 semitones to fit my vocal range. I'm going to start recording vocals now. 1346 BVs Verse 1 1400 BVs Chorus 1404 BV2 Verse 2 1432 BVs Chorus 2 1500 BV M8 1528 BV Chorus 3 - all BVs done now I think. 1334 Verse 2 1539 Verse 1 1347 Chorus 2 1353 Chorus 3 1551 Bridge 1555 Chorus 4 1558 Chorus 5 1602 Chorus 6 1616 Middle 8 A 1624 Middle 8 B 1626 finished recording all the vocals! Now for the comping / editing. All vocal parts are triple tracked so this will take a while. To say nothing of the 16 part backing vocals / harmonies. 1907 Just printed V1 2005 hours. Sharyn just fnished dinner with Kate so I just dropped off Roger and Fritz. I played her Any Way You Want It and she likes V4. I played her V1 of Malibu and she feels the same way I do: It's not working. So I've come back to the studio. I had planned on watching Blue Velvet tonight but I feel inspired to really make Malibu work, so I'm going back to basics and treating it like a remix. I'll start with just the vocals and build the track up from that. I'll trey and keep it as minimal as possible - which is something I never ever do. The Day The Earth Stood Still (BluRay) is playing in the background. 2308 - Finished V2 and I think this is the right mix for the song. I rebuilt it from scratch. I also just chatted with Costa and we've organised 4 pre-record sessions for Neon Nights next week, as the show returns in February 2023. We have planned to record a bunch of shows before we go to air, so we always have a few backups. I think the song is pretty much finished. I'll print a mix and have a listen tomorrow with fresh ears. Usually you hear things differently the next day. But now I'm happy with the track. It's different from the original and has a bit of a twist. I'm sure the rock purists will have a conniption fit (but they would probably like V1 of the track), but I'm sure the Parralox fans will dig the sound.
Wednesday 23/11/2022 - 0007 hours. Got sidetracked and decided to make the cover arftwork for this track. I caved in and used Dall-E. You can see the final product on the lyrics page, which is probably where you will end up reading these notes. Now printing Instrumental, Acapella and MIDI parts for the track. I think I can call it a day now!
Tuesday 13/12/2022 0041 Started work on this track just before midnight. There was a hige thunderstorm and poor little Jack was so freaked out, so I sat on the couch with him for a few hours and watched some documentaries and held him tight. After he settled I got into the studio to try and finish this track. V2 sounded OK but I thought I would see if I could maybe strip it back, or make V3 the final version. I'm still working on it. Not sure if V2 was fine the way it was, but I'll keep trying a few things. It actually sounded pretty good stripped back to just kick drum and bassline. Do I dare?
Sunday 18/12/2022 2214 Had my MRI today @ 1430 hours. Went to visit Debbie but there were replacement buses at North Melbourne so dammit I couldn't visit! So I dropped Jack and Roger back off at Sharyns. I came to the studio and did some video editing on Tears of Faith. Well actually it was more like Stabel diffusion and EBSynth than editing. Then I had dinner and thought I should finish off the last track for Holiday '22 which is this one. I'm trying to see if I can minimise the mix, or maybe take it in a totally different direction. Although it might be a bit late in the game for a complete rework from the ground up. We shall see.
Monday 19/12/2022 0047 hours I have Saturn 3 playing in the background and I think I just finished this song. It's V4 and I think I've found a good balance. Hope you all enjoy the track! I'm glad this is done. Now I can focus on Tears of Faith feat Jane Badler and Goodbye Berlin. But there's just the small issue of the 3 bonus CDs for Holiday '22, plus the associated artwork. Koen Kroeze has already selected all the bonus CD arrangements. He sent them a few months ago so I just need to go over them to make sure everything is in order. Nearly bed time. V4 versions are printing right now
Monday 19/12/2022 2325 hours I couldn't help myself. I tweaked the song a bit. V5 is now the final mix. I have the Orville "Identity" playing in the background. It's amazing how the Orville is now more Star Trek than actual Star Trek. I tried to watch Discovery but lost interest after the first season (terrible writing, but amazing effects - ie not enough to save the show). Star Trek definitely peaked at Deep Space Nine. Voyager was actually pretty good though. Next Gen was amazing and The Original Series is an all time classic. I also have a soft spot for the Animated Series. But modern Star Trek? Hard Pass.
